چکیده

Case-based reasoning (CBR) is an integral part of artificial intelligence. It is defined as the process of solving new problems through their comparison with similar ones with existing solutions. The CBR methodology fits well with the approach that healthcare workers take when presented with a new case, making its incorporation into a clinical setting natural. Overall, CBR is appealing in medical domains because a case base already exists, storing symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, and outcomes for each patient. Therefore, there are several CBR systems for medical diagnosis and decision support. This chapter gives an overview of CBR systems, their lifecycle, and different settings in which they appear. It also discusses major applications of CBR in the biomedical field, the methodologies used, and the systems that have been adopted. Section 13.1 provides the necessary background of CBR, while Sect. 13.2 gives an overview of techniques. Section 13.3 presents different systems in which CBR has been successfully applied, and Sect. 13.4 presents biomedical appl13.1 Case-Based Reasoning .......................... 208 13.1.1 CBR Content Modeling ................. 208 13.1.2 CBR System Lifecycle ................... 208 13.1.3 Case Maintenance ...................... 209 13.1.4 Adaptation of CBR in Medicine ..... 210

Case-based medical informatics

BACKGROUND The "applied" nature distinguishes applied sciences from theoretical sciences. To emphasize this distinction, we begin with a general, meta-level overview of the scientific endeavor. We introduce the knowledge spectrum and four interconnected modalities of knowledge. In addition to the traditional differentiation between implicit and explicit knowledge we outline the concepts of gene...

Prototypical Case Guided Case-Based Reasoning in Biomedical Domains

Representing biomedical knowledge is an essential task in biomedical informatics intelligent systems. Case-based reasoning (CBR) holds the promise of representing contextual knowledge in a way that was not possible before with traditional knowledge representation and knowledge-based methods. One main issue in biomedical CBR is dealing with the rate of generation of new knowledge in biomedical f...

Computer-Aided Tinnitus Detection based on Brain Network Analysis of EEG Functional Connectivity

Background: Tinnitus known as a central nervous system disorder is correlated with specific oscillatory activities within auditory and non-auditory brain areas. Several studies in the past few years have revealed that in the most tinnitus cases, the response pattern of neurons in auditory system is changed due to auditory deafferentation, which leads to variation and disruption of the brain net...

Radiobiological and physical effects of patient setup errors during whole breast irradiation

Background: The dose-related effects of patient setup errors on bio-physical indices were evaluated for the conventional wedge (CW) and field-in-field (FIF) whole breast irradiation techniques (WBI). Materials and Methods: The treatment plans of 10 patients receiving left WBI were retrospectively selected for evaluation. The bio-physical effects of dose variations were evaluated by shifting the...
